This apartment search has been quite harrowing for Ryan and me! On the bright side, I can now confirm that my husband does occasionally get very very anxious and nervous and stressed! On the brighter side, that anxiety and stress is now hugely decreased. The place we ended up getting is only $1550 a month, so we will still be able to eat out once in a while. It has 2 bedrooms, and is only 2 blocks from the North Berkeley BART station. It is one mile from the building I will be working in on campus and in the "Gourmet Ghetto" (which I hear talked about ALL THE TIME but still really don't know what it is). We are across from a park and in a neighborhood that I can feel safe running in at anytime of day. On the downside, it looks like a piece of crap from the outside and the kitchen is minuscule. But, we are really just so relieved to have a place. The renter's market is highly competitive and we were continually turned down for our smaller income and my student status. So hallelujah for having a home! Moving date: August 11!

Hooray Becky and Ryan. So glad you found something.
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief! It will be fine for you.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds great for location, with BART and your building close by. Good that you will have places to run. Gourmet ghetto makes me think of delicious and cheap places to eat? The picture looks like it has a patio. That can expand your living space a lot, especially in a place like California. You can grow some tomatoes and flowers out there. You can get some used patio furniture. It's going to be great!
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should do Thanksgiving at YOUR guy's new place.... :) Congratulations you guys, what a weight that must be off your shoulders. So glad you found a nice (big!) place. And don't worry about the kitchen size--I mean, if we were able to fit Becky, Ryan, Cameron, AND me into our tiny little kitchen back into Salt Lake, I know you guys will find a way to "make it work" (Tim Gunn style :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, I can't wait to visit you guys!
