Here are some pictures from the week. Mom, Dad and Ashley will appreciate them more than the rest of you, but here they are.
1) The first of the unwieldy trees in the front of our house. I know it is still ugly, but you should have seen it before. The things were about 20 years overgrown and the branches would have all stood twenty feet tall if they could stand up straight. However, gravity had gotten the better of them and they were limp like the needed Viagra. It's a work in progress!
2) The bathroo:
3) The kitchen: Close your eyes and allow me to take you on a journey to the year 1970. The basement kitchen has just been completed with hip yellow counters and 1000 pound fridge. The walls are faux wood paneling and oh so hip! Somewhere between then and now, they walls were painted blue.
Fast-forward to the present and the kitchen is no long quite so hip and is in need of some remodeling.
Mom and Dad helped us paint the cabinets a few weeks ago and I'm so glad they taught me how to paint! The doors aren't on yet in the picture, but they will be soon. We also tried this new counter paint that is epoxy based--what a smell. We chose a meadow color and I think it looks pretty good. There are some parts that aren't completely smooth but compare $50 to close to $1000 to replace the counter and its worth it! I think it looks pretty good! Also, notice the new range we got for $115.
4) Paint samples: We are trying to go with a very bright color scheme because it is in the basement. We narrowed down our selection to Saffron Ivory or Jekyll Ivory for the walls with Ultra White trim. In the picture, the left 4 panels are Jekyll and the right 3 are Saffron. The difference is a little bit more noticable in person but not much. However, I like Jekyll one because it has little more yellow in it and because it has a cool name!
I can't decide if your stories make me long for my own house again or if they make me glad I'm renting.
ReplyDeletePaint suggestion: There is a brand of paint called divine color. www.divinecolor.com. There are a few paint stores in Seattle that carry it. It is a little more expensive than other paints, but it saved us money in the long run because they sell little pouches of paint for $3, which allowed us to try it out before spending money on a quart or gallon.
The colors were created by a seattle designer who created the pallate to combat the seattle gray. I really loved the colors and many of the walls in our seattle house were painted with divine paint.
Good luck!
I think about you working over there. The counter top looks great. So does the new range. You've been doing a lot of deconstruction! I feel sorry for you having to get up in your attic with the hot spell Seattle is having. Jim Eastham says it is horribly hot in attics. We want to come over and help. I have some 3 days stretches off next week and also the following week. I'll talk to you.
