Thank goodness the window was shut

So, I got up about 6 am to get ready to drive over to Seattle to visit Bub and Ash. I decided to go downstairs to shower, hoping that dad could sleep a little longer. When I went down the stairs, I found myself face to face with a SKUNK in the window well. Dad's sleep was OVER. "Hey Hon, come and get a look at this!" The skunk was obviously trapped. He had torn the screen to shreds. He had moved lots of dirt and gravel trying to dig out underneath the concrete blocks. Brave Dad went outside and put a piece of left-over shelving in the hole, hoping Mr. Skunk would climb out. I, downstairs, with a most wonderful piece of glass between me and the skunk, saw how beautifully skunks fan their tails out when they spray. Skunks brains are, unfortunately, small. He couldn't seem to figure out how to climb out. We went about our business, me taking a shower, and Dad getting on his computer. The next time we looked, he was gone, finally figuring out how to climb up the shelving. OR, dug a good enough hole to burrow under the concrete blocks for the day.

What did I do...

to offend my car such that it felt the need to disappear late last night?  The sandy surf boards? The bike rack that scratched the paint?  The crack in the front windshield?  The dirt?  Tell me baby.  I can change.  Come back.  Things will be different from now on.  I promise.

Dessert for Dinner

I remember having breakfast for dinner as kids. Well, tonight Scott and I had dessert for dinner. We had strawberry, peach, and blackberry crêpes with crème pâtissière et flambèes.

Yum.

Poo poo chatter

The poo poo chatter is actually perfect for the news I have to share with ya'll!!! Of course we all remember my....uh...incident at the end of that race freshman year of college. Well I went to my friend Stephanie's house last night (she was on the team too) and she reported that another girl on the team had the same experience this last spring. At a home track meet, she had 200 meters left to go in the 3K and suddenly yelled "IT'S COMING OUT!!!" and come out it did!
See!?! I'm not the only one.

I also have another story. I've told three or four people this story and none of them appreciated it at all. But I think it's a great story! So here goes: I got to lab early yesterday morning (like 8 am) and started preparing some flow probes for an upcoming surgery. About 10 minutes later I heard some of the people in the lab laughing so I went over to check it out. We've had a magpie in a cage for a while and I always feel bad for him because he's big and the cage is small and I don't even know if anyone is doing any experiment on him or if we're just keeping him there. The magpie's cage is right next to a cage with six or seven zebra finches (MUCH smaller birds). In the magpie's beak was the head of a zebra finch. No body anywhere, but the magpie was chowing down. Upon closer inspection, we could see blood and feathers on the zebra finch cage and on the magpie cage. The magpie must have reached through the cages with is long beak and grabbed a zebra finch, pulled him through both cages, and had himself a nice meal! Realizing that, and then looking back at the magpie now playing with the zebra finches head for some reason made me laugh pretty hard. I guess natural selection is at work....the zebra finches smart enough to stay far away from the magpie cage will survive!

Home-runs

Bubba probably dreamed of home-runs when he played little league baseball. He talks of home-runs now with stars in his eyes. Nope, not referring to the Mariners. Also, I noticed some interesting behavior during our recent visit to Seattle. He flips light switches on and off, on and off. I haven't seen that behavior since he was a toddler.

Speaking of poo

Ahh, animals and poo. Reminds me of the days of cleaning up Sam's poo in the TV room if he had an accident overnight. Now that was some BIG POO! Remember stepping in a pile of Bear/Oddette's (they always tried to blame it on each other) regurgitated kibble in the basement? Dad and I went to visit a very cute, newly opened pet store owned by a friend of his. Cyndi showed us the most darling little shitzu/terrier mix puppy. Someone had dropped it off to her, hoping she could find it a good home. So you might wonder how long we considered taking the puppy home with us. The answer is "Not one nano-second!" We are happily pet-less. We did, however, buy a clock from the pet store. no food or water required, just a new battery once a year.
